Item # 5837

Early Fraktur Pennsylvania German folk art watercolor on paper. This fraktur had been folded at one time and is now laid down on paper. The piece is hand colored. There are flowers, leaves and vnes. Measures 7 and three quarters by 6 and one half inches.( American fraktur had its roots in medieval European decorated manuscript art. Fraktur transferred to this country in the German language with German-speaking immigrants who began arriving late in the Seventeenth Century from the Rhineland-Pfaltz area of Germany, from Alsace in today's France, and from Switzerland.) Early lithographed tin crossing guard sign. This sign is in good condition. Some schoolboy mischief has been done to the face with a marking pen, including a new beard, scar, and fake bullet hole, and a medal has been added to his lapel, but these marks can be cleaned. Measures 58 inches high and 17 inches wide. Circa 1910 to 1920.

Yale Univeristy fraternity paddle from 1919. This amusing piece of Yale history is made from solid wood with a burnt wood design typical of the period. Illustrated are the fraternity doors, emblem, Yale, Nov. 25 1919, TK, and C. D. Williams from Spike Culbert carved into its back and face. Measures 16 and one half inches long and 3 and one half inches wide.
